Rock City Troubles

More news on our case study in collapse: Detroit's city bus drivers have stopped driving.

“Our drivers are scared, they’re scared for their lives. This has been an ongoing situation about security. I think yesterday kind of just topped it off, when one of my drivers was beat up by some teenagers down in the middle of Rosa Parks and it took the police almost 30 minutes to get there, in downtown Detroit,” said Gaffney.

Forget about the hilarity of a (say it quietly, "black") bus driver being being by (even quieter, now, "black") teenagers on a street named after Rosa Parks.  It's best not to mention that sort of thing, after all.  Remember what I said way back in the way back about police response?  Yeah.  I totally called it.

Detroit Update

The reason I'm fascinated with Detroit is that it's the bellweather city for us.  What happens here, now and in the short term future, will be what happens in the rest of the nation (world?) not far behind.

Think about it. It was once a thriving city with plenty of jobs and then some, a music scene (if you can call mo-town music, that is...), artists and enthusiastic investors, all the things that go into making a good city.

Now? Not so much.

In fact, I welcome the end, if only to see the destruction of shit like this.  Yes, I know it's the logical extension of things like "metro-sexuality" and whatever, but this is seriously a bridge too far.  Someone, please, lets get a petition going to start Theater Wide Thermonuclear War, because now, the only way to lose is not to play the game...

Washington doesn't do decisions

From a guy I like to read:

Nothing can change things except the utter collapse of the US economy and the burning of its cities, a singularity the other side of which is not visible. Any possible sollution would require a decision. The US no longer does decisions. It can neither stop the drug traffic nor legalize it. It can neither win wars nor abandon them, neither make money nor stop spending it, neither stop immigration nor assimilate the immigrants. Washington can beat its thumb with a hammer, yes, and notice that it hurts, but it can't stop beating its thumb. That would take a decision, and Washington doesn't do decisions.

Is supply chain (mis)management going to be the thing that kills us all?  Considering some of the people (okay, just one) I used to work with, I'm betting yes.
